Under whoseauspices

The association works under the traditional authority of Akropong-Akuapem. These are the stools it answers to, the council that runs it, and the neighbours from Shoreline who have come up the ridge to sit with us.

The Okuapehene

The Okuapehene is the paramount chief of the Akuapem Traditional Area — the confederation of hill towns that came together in the 1730s — and sits on the paramount stool at Akropong, the capital of the state.

The office presides over the Traditional Council, opens the Odwira festival for all the Akuapem towns, and is the authority under whose auspices the Akropong Sister City Association was formed and this museum assembled.

The Krontihene

Enstooled 2022 · the nineteenth Krontihene

The Krontihene heads the Kronti division — the senior of the divisions of an Akan state, and the first among the paramount chief’s counsellors. The office speaks for the town in council and stands as regent when the paramount stool is vacant.

In Akropong the Kronti stool has carried the town’s development work, and the association’s first project, Y-CRAFS, is run with the Kuronti Development Initiative.

The council

The Council sets policy, appoints officers and approves every budget. It always includes the traditional authority of Akropong-Akuapem, local government, and youth and women representatives — five to nine members, each serving a three-year term.

A sister city is not a document, it is a visit. For Odwira 2026 — the festival’s bicentenary — a delegation from Shoreline travelled to Akropong-Akuapem, was received by the traditional authority, and sat with the community building this friendship. The association records their visit with gratitude.
